So I bought this awesome machine about a month ago. It truly rocks — 260gig HD, 4gig RAM, the works, and still $1500 cheaper than a comparable Apple Macbook. Everything is peachy for a month, during which I’ve upgraded my wifi router to 802.11n spec. And this is where the problem started. My brand new XPS kept on dropping wifi connections and disabling the actual radio in Vista (Ubuntu was fine), so nothing would help except an actual reboot… A few reboots later and I am properly mad to actually figure wtf is going on. A bit of digging, and I’ve come up with this on the Dell’s Support website: IntelĀ® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG MiniCard Radio Becomes Disabled — bingo! After one happy installation later, I’m readily watching internet tube again, except, 20 minutes later I AM DROPPED AGAIN.
Not easily foiled, I’m digging into Google again to find the crux of this issue… Sparing you the 5 minutes of pure cursing and crawling, here is what you need to do.
- First of all, upgrade driver offered by Dell is a bit outdated, so upgrade from here: intel support (make sure to get driver only!).
- After installation of this driver, go into Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs and uninstall the Intel Pro Wireless utility.
That’s it. I hope I saved you a few minutes.

It’s slow progress here… I mean we all have full time jobs and schools (I am working on my PhD) and friends and playstations and many other distractions that make up life. On top of that I got SaneBull: features, design, server maintenance, customer support, blah blah blah.
Still, with this great many distractions affecting our team every day, its amazing we squeezed in a whole new system… So yes, its ready and it rocks. SaneBull 2.0 will be launching soon and the beta is already up, so if you desire to test out the private beta before everyone else sees it, message me on aim: fixrm or email me.

During the last few month our team has worked on a several projects unrelated to SaneBull. I am happy to announce that we will concentrate a lot more work on this product and release a few exciting updates. We have completed second tier of our killer widgets that will include an in-depth market evaluation from a number of different angles. As usual, all data is live =). We have also laid the groundwork and prepared a full-blown video portal, as well as a different kind of portal — they are coming soon. Maybe we’ll dub it SaneBull 2.0?
Another piece of news is that with all our system improvements, the number of people visiting the site has still owned the server. We’re designing a round-robin platform where we will add a few more servers to reduce strain on the current public environment and reduce loading and updating times. As always, if you like what we do and want fast delivery for your customers, why not try our paid services?
Lastly, I want go give a shout out to the mytrade folks. Congrats!

SaneBull is now sporting a brand new video library. We’re starting with famous Wallstrip videos and Reuters business news. The videos are currently available under SBMM only, but a widget and a stand alone finance videos search site are coming soon.
The videos have been added under Feeds -> Videos menu . Simply clicking on one, will bring up the player and selection of all videos available for the provider.
We’ve designed a stand-alone library for videos, so we will have most current videos from major providers at your fingertips… We will also link videos to the relevant stocks in the near future, so you could watch only related videos.
Let us know what you think and what video providers we should add.

Today we have rolled out a new widget: World Market Match. This is a very similar widget to the Market Watch we had before, except it follows most of the markets around the world. You can also limit the viewable markets by continent: America, Asia, and Europe.

All of you have seen slow downs with SaneBull service. Us too. As previously said, we have beefed up the public server by adding processors, ram, and bandwidth — and even with all that there is a noticeable denial of service during peak hours.
So what do good programmers do? They go back to the drawing board and improve. So it went, and we have designed a new and improved underlying service system that will beat the traffic and remain operational during heavy loads. Look for it this weekend!
10.7.2007 - Update: We’re done! Welcome to the super-fast SaneBull. We’ve optimized the front-end serving engine by adding an HTTP only server, but more importantly, we’ve redesigned the underlying service to be threaded. So now, we load the data asynchronously of the front end — this allows us to have all the fresh data independent of number of incoming requests. Take that PHP and Ruby!

As many of you have noticed, SaneBull service is suffering a public lag. The lag is caused by the number of embedded widgets we now have (over 10k!), we have upgraded the server, increased the bandwidth, and maximized the RAM, but even with all that, service lag is visible. The solution? Paid service, of course!
So after a bit of deliberation we are announcing a two tiered paid widget service. The options are a $20/month shared server and $60/month dedicated server.
In shared server plan, you will be sharing the service with a number of other users, but the throttling would be in full effect for best performance per shared sites. The widgets will be smaller, as we will remove the advertising. The widgets will have the same look and feel as the currently served ones.
In dedicated setup, you will have full control of your widget service, as well as, a personal deployment of SaneBull Market Monitor for your sites’ users. SBMM deployment will allow you to have your users portfolio active, as well as, the regular widgets and plug-ins. As administrator, a full access to the database of the users will be accessible. We will also allow for widget customization — your very own look and feel, for a small one time fee.
Service matrix and service details available on the SaneBull Paid Services.

So, over the weekend we delved deep into the now famous Facebook platform. It is surprisingly easy, and a pleasure to work with. There are a few caveats here and there of course, but overall there are a lot of great resources out there to get you started and pointed in the right direction.
The first order of business was to set up shop for SaneBull on Facebook. We’re proud to announce successful completion of the Facebook monitor, and it is available here: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=11142331080
In essence, this is a widget powered monitor built around Facebook standard canvas. No registration is required, but we do force you to install the application. For that, the user receives the ability to monitor his/her portfolio right on the platform, as well as, add up to 3 live symbol monitors. The application leaves minimum footprint on the profile: we only show your currently monitored symbols. The mini-feed is also updated with latest changes you do. We’ve also decided not to go the spam route, and just wait and see how the application will do on its own.
Enjoy, and let us know what else you would like!
